The government says an amended bill on new contributory pension scheme and local government elections will be submitted to the Parliament in near future. A special cabinet sub committee appointed to look into this matter met recently to discuss about the bill. Minister Faizer Mustapha convened this meeting with the participation of Minister Rauff Hakeem and Chairman of Elections Commission Mahinda Deshappriya. The discussion focused on the suggestions submitted by the Chairman of the Commission with regard to technical insight of the bill.

Meanwhile, Minister Ranjith Maddumabandara said amended bill on new contributory pension scheme will be submitted to the Parliament very soon. Minister made these remarks while addressing at a special function in Southern Province. He recalled that a later professor N.M. Perera presented a similar bill in 1971.
