Former Minister and UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena said that some parties want to recreate Sinhala - Muslim riots similar to those of 1915, to achieve their own goals.

Speaking to a local radio channel, Gunawardena said that these parties want to destabilize the country to achieve their aims, which cannot be done in a peaceful society.

He recalled that key members of the Sinhalese elite of Ceylon including D.S. Senanayake, who later became the first Prime Minister of independent Ceylon, were put in jail during the riots of 1915.
