Minister of Law and Order Sagala Rathnayake said that 62 members of the 'Aava' sword gang have been identified and 38 have been arrested so far.

He made this observation, answering a question raised by JVP leader Anura Dissanayake.

Investigations are underway to arrest eight key members of the gang, he further revealed.

The gang came to prominence after the assault of two policemen in October. Several suspected members were recently produced before the Colombo Magistrate Courts and were remanded till tomorrow. It is alleged that they have ties with ex-LTTE cadres.
