Minister of Media and Parliamentary Reforms Gayantha Karunathilake appointed a new Executive Director with no prior experience in the media field, for the Sri Lanka Media Training Institute.

The new ED, Sunil Maddumage, is a retired Air Force officer with 23 years of service in the SLAF. He later served in Managerial capacities in several private companies including Koggala Garment, Dialog and Loadstar.

However, his appointment to a media training institute raises eyebrows as he has no prior experience in the field.

Similar to Minister Karunathilake, Maddumage hails from Galle District.
