As the Sri Lankan people are still awaiting the progress of the 'Google Loon' project under which they were to be provided internet at a very nominal fee, the government has proposed to increase the telecommunications levy on internet services.
Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake today said during the budget speech that the Telecommunication Levy on Internet services will be increased to 25%.
He also said that a SIM Activation Levy of Rs 200 will be imposed for a SIM.
These come days after the Sri Lankan people were imposed a 15 percent VAT for telecommunication services.
