US Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton used a tactic similar to what was used by President Maithripala Sirisena in the 2015 January Presidential Election and failed to win the presidency, former Ambassador Dr. Dayan Jayatilleke said.
Speaking to a vernacular radio channel, he said that Clinton attempted to obtain the maximum of the minority vote and a sizable section of the majority white population.
However, her rival Donald Trump managed to win the presidency.
Opinion polls prior to the election indicated that minorities overwhelmingly favored Clinton while Trump was the overwhelming favorite of the white, male population.
Donald Trump won the Presidential Election on November 8 with more than 270 electors already pledged support to him.
