Attention has been focused on introducing the pictorial warnings for the Beedi and cigar packets as like the cigarette packets, Director General of Health Services Dr. Palitha Mahipala said.

Government recently with the intention of reducing the smoking which causes for number of diseases applied pictorial warnings on Cigarette packets according to the recommendation made by WHO. But, it was not applied on Beedi or cigar packets so far.

Dr. Mahipala pointed out that with the recent price increment on cigarettes; it is expected to reduce the number of smokers by 4-5 percent.
