Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (Sri Lanka People's Front) members will not be allowed to take membership of other parties, former Minister Basil Rajapaksa said.

Speaking to the media recently, Rajapaksa said that the party constitution will have a provision barring its members from being members of other parties.

Claiming that he expected one million members for the new party, Rajapaksa said that most of them will be members of other parties. Therefore, they will relinquish membership of these parties, he said.

Rajapaksa added that he will be one of the first to take the membership of the new party once it is formed.
