Prof. G.L. Peiris, the leader of the Sri Lanka People's Front, has been suspended from the SLFP on instructions of party General Secretary Duminda Dissanayake.

This step has been taken after he assumed leadership of the newly formed party.

The SLFP has taken steps to inform Peiris of the decision in writing.

Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa recently said that they were expecting one million members for the new party. However, there are divisions within the Joint Opposition on the decision to launch a new movement.
