Most key figures of the new political party of the 'Joint Opposition', the Sri Lanka People's Front, will be in prisons for their past wrongdoings before the next election, Deputy Minister Ajith P. Perera said.
Speaking to a vernacular radio channel, Perera said that there was no worry of the new party defeating the UNP in any upcoming election, as many leaders of the new party will be behind bars.
The Sri Lanka People's Front, or Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, was formed by renaming a party already registered. The new party name and the names of the officials were registered with the Elections Commission. Prof. G.L. Peiris is appointed as the new party leader.
