The rise of the 'Aava' gang raises serious questions about the security forces and the police, Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said, pointing out that it was surprising to see their inaction towards a ragtag gang.
Speaking at an event yesterday, Ranawaka said that it was puzzling to see the inability of the security forces to curb these gangs, although they defeated the LTTE, a powerful terror organization, only a few years back.
Aava is a gang with a few swords and other weapons and is led by a 23-year-old, Ranawaka pointed out. Despite this, the government cannot contain them and they are taking ransom and disrupting public life, he said.
