Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says one million housing units will be provided solar panels. He added that the government has embarked a project to even fix solar panels to government buildings. The minister further noted that the housing units that are larger than 2,000 square feet will also be equipped with solar power. Accordingly, the government aims to generate 1,000 megawatts of energy through solar power. 

He highlighted that solar energy is most sustainable energy source for the country.
