The 15 percent VAT and the 2 percent Nation Building Tax will come into effect on November 1, the Finance Ministry said.

The VAT (Amendment) Bill was passed in Parliament yesterday. The NBT Bill had been passed on an earlier occasion.

The VAT amendment was initially to be introduced from the beginning of May. However, it was challenged in court and was delayed.
