Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe confirmed that 15,000 acres of land in Hambantota District will be allocated for Chinese investors to set up a special economic zone.

He made this announcement making a special statement on the government's economic plan.

The government earlier this month announced that the agreement on the lease of the land will be signed in the near future. State Finance Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena made this revelation on October 11.
