Minister of Fisheries, Mahinda Amaraweera participating in the inauguration ceremony of the proposed Anchorage in Peraliya expressed these views. Government has allocated Rs 300 million for the construction of this anchorage and the Fishery Harbour and Anchorage Development Project Unit coming under the purview of the Fisheries Ministry initiated the construction under the distinguished participation of Minister of Fisheries, Governor of the Southern Province and a group of other distinguished guests.
Fisheries Ministry has incurred a huge sum exceeding Rs.500 million for development purposes of fishery harbours and anchorages during the present year. Provision of facilities required by the fisher community has been prioritized by the government, said Hon Minister.
“It is generally thought that only the politicians need to accord with Yahapalanaya. However, cooperation of each and every person is needed in a successful implementation of yahapalana policies in a country.”
“This is a 45- year dream made possible by the current government, attending the requests made by Peraliya people asking for an anchorage with boat mooring facilities. They have been requesting for an anchorage for 45 years and “Samabara Mama” (uncle) was the spearhead of these repeated attempts. Thus it was decided to name the anchorage after the name of “Sambara Mama”, said Minister.
