President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday indicated that he is receiving intelligence reports on the people's sentiments on his government.
Speaking at the Central Environment Authority, he said that he received a report of an incident where a large hill in Warakapola was being excavated for soil from the intelligence services.
Apparently, the excavation is carried out with environmental clearance, and as the Minister of Environment he was shocked, Sirisena revealed.
The intelligence service reported to him that the people in the area were extremely disappointed with him because of this situation, Sirisena said. He added that he took measures to cancel the permits.
He added that his clearance will be needed for such excavations and forest clearings in the future.
