Avant Garde Maritime Services Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi was permitted to travel abroad for one year by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya despite the objections by the Bribery Commission.
Senadhipathi's passport had been impounded with respect to two different court cases, both at the Chief Magistrate's Court.
He had requested permission to travel abroad for medical treatment.
A legal officer of the Bribery Commission objected to the request, saying that they could not agree to Senadhipathi traveling abroad for a long duration of time.
The objections were noted and Senadhipathi's request was granted. However, the magistrate ordered him to be present on dates of the court hearings.
