The body of the retired army officer who was found hanging at his residence recently with a 'suicide note' claiming responsibility for the murder of former Sunday Leader Editor Lasantha Wickrematunge is exhumed today.

The exhumation began following an order issued by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court. It is conducted in the presence of Kegalle Magistrate Gihan Meegahage.

The body of the retired officer was found at his home in Kegalle last week.

It was reported that the CID had been unable to obtain fingerprints before the burial.

Wickrematunge was murdered on his way to work on January 8, 2009. His remains were also exhumed on September 27.
