Speaker Karu Jayasuriya clarified that neither President Maithripala Sirisena nor Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe have any doubts or have made any contradictory remarks on the proceedings or the independence of the Independent Commissions established under the Constitutional Council (CC).
He, in his capacity as the Chairman of the CC clearly explained that both President and Prime Minister are of the stand that independence of those commissions should not be harmed even in the future.
Recently, the Chairs and the members of the ongoing Independent Commissions had asked for a clarification from the Speaker whether the high ranks of the government had reported any unclear situation regarding the proceedings of the Independent Commissions.
In his response to those who asked for the above clarification, the Speaker while informing them to fulfill their national mission to the country with confidence assured the fullest cooperation from the Constitutional Council in coordination with the President, Prime Minister, and other interested parties.
