The Local Government Election is likely to be postponed beyond June 2017, State Minister of Finance Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said yesterday.

He made this observation at a meeting in Hakmana, Matara District.

Abeywardena said that the delimitation process has not been done and it will take a few more months to complete it.

The 'Joint Opposition' has said that it will launch a new movement when the election has been called. It is accusing the government of buying time because the JO will sweep the local election.
