“The Muslims could be rest assured that they will be protected and given all their rights as much as the Sinhalese and Tamils. I have never been a communalist nor can I be one in the future” said former President Mahinda Rajapaksa while addressing Muslims from all parts of the island.
He said, currently the Sri Lankan Muslims are undergoing severe hardships. “Their problems must be addressed”, he added.
Delegates from all parts of the country were present at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party convention for Muslims held at the Nelum Mawatha, Battaramulla, Colombo on Wednesday as reported by Pakistan Observer.
The meeting also condemned the action of the Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry’s decision to boycott the SAARC Conference to be held in Islamabad. Pakistan had been a very close friend of ours and nothing should have been to hurt the feelings, as this country had been of immense help for the former regime to win the war against terrorism and also they had been supporting our cause in Geneva and other world fora.
The resolution on SAARC was proposed by former Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs minister Al haj A.H. Mohammed Azwer. “The Muslims could be rest assured that they will be protected and given all their rights as much as the Sinhalese and Tamils. I have never been a communalist nor can I be one in the future” said former President Mahinda Rajapakse while addressing the Muslims from all parts of the island. He said, currently the Sri Lankan Muslims are undergoing severe hardships. “Their problems must be addressed”, he added.
