Construction of the second stage of the central expressway will begin today.
Foundation stone for the construction will be laid at the Giriulla area this morning under the patronage of Minister Lakshman Kiriella. A sum of 150 billion rupees has been allocated for this stage that stretches from Mirigama to Kurunegala. Local contractors will carry out the construction and they will be completed by 2019. The central expressway will be completed in four stages by 2020. Construction of the first stage from Kadawatha to Mirigama is now progressing.
The third stage of the project is from Kurunegala to Dambulla and the fourth stage from Kurunegala to Galagedera.
