Seven suspects including former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Avant Garde Maritime Services Chairman Nissanka Senadhipathi and three former navy commanders were today released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya over the Avant-Garde corruption case filed by the Director General of the Bribery Commission.
They were released on a cash bail of Rs 200,000 and two sureties of Rs 10 million each.
The Attorney General objected to the preliminary objections raised by the suspects that a case cannot be filed by the DG of the commission without sanction of the commission. The AG said that there were precedence for such cases.
The case were fixed for December 1.
