A tense situation was reported yesterday from the Kokeliya Ranaviru Village in Vavuniya after Sinhalese inhabitants were threatened on two occasions by a group allegedly led by a suspected former LTTE member.

According to the villagers, they have been assaulted by the group on two occasions.

The assailants have told them that their lands actually belong to the Tamil people and that they should leave.

The villagers converged by the A9 road and demanded protection. The Vavuniya Police arrived at the place of their protest and have promised to conduct an investigation on the assault.
