The remains of former Editor-in-Chief of Sunday Leader Lasantha Wickremetunga are being exhumed today.

Wickremetunga, who was murdered on January 8, 2009, is buried at the Borella Cemetery.

The Mout Lavinia Magistrate recently gave permission to exhume the remains for further analysis pertaining to Wickremetunga's murder.

The murder investigation was relaunched after the election of President Maithripala Sirisena in January 2015. A former army intelligence officer is currently in custody on suspicion for the murder.
