Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said that he will issue a circular against the rules imposed by principals of government schools making it mandatory for mothers to wear saris when coming to schools.

Speaking at a function today, he said that he has instructed officials to allow mothers to come to schools in decent, appropriate clothing.

He said that mothers who are employed are facing added difficulties because of such rules imposed by the schools.

Kariyawasam also emphasized that parents also have a responsibility to be dressed appropriately when coming to schools.
