UPFA MP Pavithra Wanniarachchi yesterday said that there was no need for a new political party to build a new national movement as there are already a number of registered political parties which could be used as a platform.
Speaking at a pree briefing of the 'Joint Opposition' she said that the regional network is now being established for a new movement.
Even President Maithripala Sirisena used an existing party as a platform in his Presidential campaign, she recalled.
The rally on October 8 will not be a rally of a new party but a new movement and it will have a larger crowd than at the recent SLFP and UNP conventions, she added.
Meanwhile, MP Dilum Amunugama said that the Joint Opposition has the largest number of registered parties in the country.
