Twenty three pending cases and trials under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) that are before the High Court will be considered by the Attorney General’s Department, to facilitate a plea, Minister of Prison Reforms, Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Hindu Religious Affairs said.
The Attorney General’s Department has agreed to take this measure following a discussion with the Minister of Prison Reforms, Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Hindu Religious Affairs, D.M Swaminathan.
At present there are 96 indicted cases under the PTA and out these 96 cases, 23 cases will be considered for amendment of indictment to facilitate a plea.
The plea would be facilitated if the suspects are willing to commit to the 6 month rehabilitation programme carried out by the Bureau of the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation.
