Attorney-at-Law P. Liyanaarachchi filed a Special Determination Petition against the Nation Building Tax (Amendment) Bill which was added to the Parliamentary Order Paper on September 7.

The petitioner says that the bill contravenes a number of articles in the constitution including Article 12 (1), 13 (6) and 27 (1).

Therefore, the petitioner seeks a determination that the bill contravenes the constitution and to announce that it needs a two thirds majority in Parliament and a referendum to be approved as law.
