The Attorney General, on behalf of the Ministry of Power and Energy, informed the Supreme Court that the Sampur Power Plant will not be constructed.

This was informed regarding a Fundamental Rights petition filed by the Environmental Foundation Guarantee Limited.

The petition had highlighted the long term environmental impact and the discrepancies of the EIA regarding the project.

Respondents of the petition include the CEB, the Ministry of Power and Energy and the Central Environmental Authority.
