An individual was arrested by police for allegedly maintaining a fake Facebook profile, pretending to be that of the Inspector-General of Police, and misleading some women. 

The investigation was conducted due to a complaint made to Criminal Investigation Department in Kandy by a woman from the Kandy area. 

The fake account was created by a person named Weeraseka Aarachchige Rajitha Madhushan Weerasekara who is residing in News Zealand. The suspect was arrested at the Katunayake airport upon his arrival on September 5. 

The suspect was presented to the Colombo Fort Magistrate Court yesterday and was ordered to be remanded till September 8.
