Former Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena's lawyers today filed preliminary objections in the Colombo High Court regarding a case filed by the Bribery Commission on he alleged misappropriation of Rs 41.2 million.
Bribery Commission made a request to amend the production items and the witnesses list, to which Abeygunawardena made a preliminary objection.
He also raised objection on the fact that the documents pertaining to the case were not handed over to the defence prior to the case being heard. According to Abeygunawardena's lawyers, most of the documents in the case were computer generated and they had to be given to the defence 45 days prior to the hearing.
The court ordered both sides to file written submissions over the preliminary objections.
Meanwhile Abeywardena informed court that he had to leave the country for a month from September 24. The court ordered him to file the relevant documents on September 9.
The case was fixed for October 31.
In January, the Bribery Commission filed indictment against UPFA MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena at Colombo High Court for illegal acquisition of property worth Rs 41.2 million.
The alleged acquisition took place between 2004-2006 period.
