Major General Sumith Manawadu, who was admitted to the National Hospital with serious head injuries yesterday morning, passed away today.
Major General Manawadu was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after sustaining after a wooden beam collapsed on him at a construction site.
The incident had occurred at a property belonging to the Major General on Old Kesbewa Road in Delkanda, while he was inspecting the construction work at the site.
He was rushed to the Army Hospital and later transferred to the National Hospital, where a surgery was done on him.
Manawadu was the officer who arrested former army commander Sarath Fonseka following the Presidential Election 2010.
Manawadu also served as the Deputy High Commissioner for Malaysia later.
