The police will deploy 5,000 personnel for special duty on May 1 to provide security for May Day rallies and control traffic.

Accordingly, 3,100 personnel will be deployed to provide security and 1,900 for traffic control, in lieu of major rallies in Colombo and elsewhere.

The UNP May Rally will be held in Campbell Park in Borella while the JVP rally is held at BRC Grounds. SLFP rally is to be held in Galle. The 'Joint Opposition' rally will be held at Kirulapone. There will be several other smaller rallies in addition to these major rallies.
