Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa said that some people asked him not to observe the New Year auspicious times as they were allegedly prepared with a party agenda in mind.

Speaking to the media during a visit to Kandy, he said that people told him that these were prepared to favor the government.

However, since astrology was not his area of expertise, he went along with the times given, he said.
