Three policemen including a sergeant and two constables of the Laggala police station have been suspended, following the theft of several weapons from the police station yesterday.

Police sources said the suspended officers were on duty at the time of the theft. 

The step has been taken to make sure that there are impediments to the ongoing investigation into the theft.

The Police, yesterday, handed over the inquiries into the alleged theft to the Criminal Investigations Department. 

The CID also investigated whether the Police officers in duty were under the influence of alcohol when the alleged theft occurred. 

The Police, however, is yet to arrest any suspect in connection with the theft.
