Kusal Janith Perera's official hearing on the use of banned substance is fixed for May and therefore he is not yet banned, Sri Lanka's former Test captain Mahela Jayawardene said on Twitter.
Updating a statement late last night, Jayawardene said that he spoke to Perera after the news of the ban broke out.
"Spoke to Kusal. He is suspended and has a official hearing in May.Then ICC will decide on his future. He is not banned yet according to Kusal."
The ICC also confirmed of the matter to the BBC.
Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara said last night that Perera has been banned for four years.
