A group led by TNA Northern Provincial Council Member M.K. Sivajilingam surrounded Jaffna District Secretary's Office, to protest over the appropriation of lands by the security forces.

The protesters said that the security forces have appropriated some lands in several areas recently.

Although the government pledged to release appropriated lands, it is now appropriating more lands, they alleged.

The District Secretary was unable to leave his office due to the protest. There was a heated argument when the police arrived at the scene and the protesters refused to leave.

They were later allowed to discuss the matter with the District Secretary.
