The heads of departments in the Faculty of Management Studies in Sabaragamuwa University have unanimously decided to step down with effect from April 6, as a result of what they call the very unpleasant and intimidating behaviour of the undergraduate students of the Faculty towards the Dean and the academic staff members.
The students demand the removal of the 80% attendance requirement, which is not acceptable, the Sabaragamuwa University Teachers' Association said.
As a result this step, the regular academic activities of the Faculty will be severely affected, the Sabaragamuwa University Teachers' Association said in a media statement.
The SUTA also condemned the ill-mannered and unruly behaviour of the undergraduates towards the academic staff members and said that there exists no conducive environment at the Faculty for academic activities due to the students' behaviour.
