The National Police Commission has decided to file charge sheets against 12 police personnel over the death of Sumith Prasanna Jayawardana after a clash on the night of January 4.
The Commission stated that who 12 policemen who were on duty when a clash erupted between police and a group of civilians which resulted in the death of 29-year-old Sumith Prasanna in Embilipitiya.
The committee which was appointed by the commission has prepared the charge sheets.
The members of the Commission are to decide on the steps to be taken regarding the matter during a meeting scheduled to this afternoon.
D. C. Dharmaratne, former Assistant Superintendent of Police who was attached to Embilipitiya Police has already been arrested and remanded in connection with the incident.
Sumith Prasanna Jayawardena died on 7th January after a clash with the Embilipitiya police on the night of January 4 during a party at Mahawela, Embilipitiya. His body was exhumed to conduct another post-ortem on 15th March before Embilipitiya Magistrate.
