The Ministry of Defence announced a general amnesty period for the handing over of illegal firearms.

The amnesty period will be from April 25, 2016, to May 5, 2016.

Although there is no exact estimate of the number of illegal firearms in circulation, some reports have suggested a figure of around 50,000.
