Sri Lanka Cricket Selectors Committee Chairman Aravinda de Silva today accepted responsibility for Sri Lanka's campaign at the T20 World Cup which was concluded recently.
Speaking to the media today, de Silva defended the selection of Lahiru Thirimanne for the team, arguing that he was the most technically correct batsman of the team and he needs to be supported.
However, de Silva hit out at former Sri Lanka T20 captain Lasith Malinga, saying that his claims on fitness were false.
Malinga stepped down as the T20 captain while deciding to play with the team, and the selectors chose him for the Sri Lanka squad.
However, Malinga later hit out at the selectors saying that he was already not fit to play and it was a mistake to include him in the team.
Dismissing his claim, de Silva said that they had an email from Malinga in which he confirmed that he was fit to play.
Former cricket captain and Minister Arjuna Ranatunga also took part in this press conference and called for the overhaul of the Sri Lanka Cricket. De Silva, on the other hand, called for a five year plan to develop the game.
