It is suspected that the individual who was arrested for possession of explosives discovered in Chavakachcheri had contacts with the pro-LTTE expatriates, police sources said.

The former LTTE operative is thought to have had contacts with the expatriates through a network operated by the former LTTE operative Meryl who is now in prison.

Meanwhile, the Chavakachcheri individual is also suspected of having links with the underworld in the south.

The underworld in the south and the former LTTE operatives are thought to be involved in drug smuggling, among other activities.
