Several changes are expected in the official positions of the UNP, political sources said.

Accordingly, a new, second tier party member is expected to take the post of party General Secretary position.

Several other members of the second tier of the leadership is to be given responsible positions, sources also said.

Meanwhile, the Leadership Council and Deputy Leader posts are likely to be abolished, along with the National Leader position. Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is officially the national leader of the party, is expected to become party leader, as in the past.
