The story of a young woman named Deumi Perera, who committed suicide over a broken love affair was widely reported on vernacular media and created an outburst of online discussion on social media.

Media reported the apparent death of the girl with accompanying images of her Facebook posts, messages apparently sent to the lover and even images of her body after her death.

However, the story has been revealed to be a hoax, with the account calling itself 'Deumi Perera' appearing online on Facebook after the woman was reported dead.

It is claimed that this girl, or whoever that is handling the account, had carried out the hoax on purpose.
