Two members of the Sri Lanka IT Professionals Association filed a Special Determination Petition with the Supreme Court challenging two clauses of the Right to Information bill, arguing that their Fundamental Rights are infringed by the clauses.
The petitioners say that the clauses 5 (1) (c) (v) and 5 (3) of the bill contravenes the Fundamental Rights guaranteed under Articles 12 (1) and 14 (1) (g).
The petitioners seek the Supreme Court to declare that the two clauses in the RTI Bill needs a two thirds majority in Parliament and approval of the people in a referendum.
