Nine Parliamentarians of the ruling party have presented a motion to Parliament against any international war crimes inquiry on Sri Lanka.
The motion has been presented while the 26th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council session is underway.
Nine ruling party MPs, namely Achala Suranga Jagoda, A.H.M.Azwer, Malini Fonseka, Janaka Priyantha Bandara, Udith Lokubandara, Shantha Bandara, J.R.P. suriyapperuma, Nimal Wijesinghe and Duminda Silva have signed the motion.
The motion states that the OHCHR-driven investigation is an infringement on Sri Lanka's sovereignty.
This motion will be discussed at the party leaders' meeting in Parliament which is scheduled to take place tomorrow (12). Following the meeting, a date would be fixed for a parliamentary debate on the same matter.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday that Sri Lanka's position on an international war crimes inquiry would be determined by Parliament where the ruling party has a two thirds majority.
