The Bar Association of Sri Lanka represented the Convener of the Movement Against Meethotamulla Garbage Dump Keerthiratne Perera and its organizer Attorney-at-Law Nuwan Bopage when they were produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Courts.
Attorney-at-Law Saliya Peiris made a submission on behalf of the two individuals. The President of the BASL and around 70 other lawyers also appeared at the courts today.
The two arrested individuals were released on personal bail of Rs 100,000 each by Colombo Additional Magistrate Mohammed Mihal.

A protest was organized by the movement against the Meethotamulla garbage dump on December 27. The protestors launched a Satyagraha on the same day. However it was allegedly attacked by a group led by the Kolonnawa Urban Council Chairman, which injured several protesters including Keerthiratne Perera and Nuwan Bopage.
Meanwhile, the Kolonnawa UC Chairman has accused the Satyagraha campaigners of assault.
