Sri Lanka Customs’ Revenue Task Force has seized a large consignment of illegally imported medicines valued at Rs. 90 million from a warehouse at the Colombo Port.
According to Customs officials, the shipment contained 1.8 million Pregabalin (Pregab 150mg) capsules, concealed inside 36 wooden speaker boxes. The consignment, which was imported from India, was brought into the country by a businessman based in Pettah, without the necessary approval from Sri Lanka’s National Medicine Regulatory Authority.
Customs investigations have suggested that the drugs were intended for illicit distribution, with concerns that they were being targeted at schoolchildren for abuse. Further inquiries are ongoing.
