The FBI laboratory in the USA has facilities to identify the faces of those appearing in the CCTV footage relating to Rugby player Wasim Thajudeen's killing, a top investigator told Asian Mirror.
Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Pieris yesterday allowed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to send the CCTV footage relating to the murder of Thajudeen for analysis by foreign experts.
Filing an analytical report in Court, on January 06, the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC) informed that several DVDs and CDs containing video clips of the CCTV footage from two intersections in Colombo were unable to retrieve the license plate of the car suspected to be the vehicle of former Rugby player Wasim Thajudeen.
The report further said it was unable to identify the faces of individuals sitting inside the vehicle.
The UCSC recommended that these video footage could be examined at advanced forensic laboratories, such as, the FBI Laboratory Service in USA, Forensic Services MPS in UK(New Scotland Yard) and British Colombia Institution of Technology in Canada which have better technical capacity. The UCSC Information System Manager S.C.M.Attanayake stated that several CCTV footage from Narahenpita and Kirulapana intersections had been forwarded to them by the CID, following a Court order issued by Colombo Additional Magistrate Nishantha Peiris.
The CID team handling investigations has already traced the possible suspects of Wasim Thajudeen killing.
